The Time Frame is from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, which is based on the time many of the residents return from church.  The Volunteers will meet at the Temple at 10:30 and we will pick up the lunches to take with us to the Agency as well as some clothing donations.  Last year we had some volunteers who lived close to the Agency, so they met us out there, but preferably the meeting point will be the Temple.

The Agency has 36 adult residents and usually about 12 children.  Not all the residents will be there as some have to work on Sundays.  The Agency will have about five volunteers/staff/trustees on hand that day.  We estimate needing about 20 Mitzvah Day volunteers who will be involved in the following activities:

1.  Serving of Lunch
2.  Bingo Game for the adult residents with prizes that we ask our volunteers to donate
3.  Manicures
4.  Sports activities for the kids

The minimum age we would recommend is eight.  Last year we found it makes for a good family activity as the parents can work with adults and/or serving lunch and their kids can be involved with the children in the sports activities.

The volunteers will have several opportunities here.

1. Trimming landscape area outdoors.  2. Cleaning and polishing furnishings/fixtures.

Everyone can meet at the temple and caravan down to SEARCH.  If you want to work outdoors, please bring your gloves and gardening tools.  The hedges can use some trimming and there are plenty of weeds to pull.

If you want to work indoors and help clean, please wear appropriate clothing and you might want to bring some heavy gloves – SEARCH has thin gloves.  SEARCH will supply the cleaning products.

Those who want to prepare and serve lunch, bring an apron and a smile!

Volunteers will help serve meals to residents and do things such as sort linens or put away canned goods.  Sometimes at the downtown center they need men to help stack and sort boxes (moderate lifting) in addition to the above listed activities.

Note:  Please wear closed toe shoes and bring an apron and something to cover your hair (men and women).  NO ONE UNDER 16 ( this is a strict policy and must be followed)

Turning Point Gardens, #33
Jean Fefer

Preparing and building vegetable garden beds, mulching garden beds.  Wear outdoor gardening clothes, gloves, hat, sturdy shoes.  Bring gardening spade and crow bar if you have one.  This is a great outdoor project and involves moderate lifting and bending – not for anyone who is injured or disabled.
